French reject Jacque Chirac and Frances determined effort to control the European Union and its interests. The French citizens are cozy benefactor’s to Socialism, and welfare programs. However, who could blame them for not wanting an influx of cheap labor. French leadership was the architect of the EU constitutional efforts but lost out because of their own social programs despite over 10% unemployment.
In reality the “Non” vote was anti-Capitalism destined to strip Europe of its Social-Welfare model. However, Mr. Chirac asserted that the constitution was France’s only bulwark against the encroachment of Anglo-Saxon-style capitalism.
Chirac’s main political opponent in his own ruling party, Nicolas Sarkozy, argued for the constitution on the same grounds that the no camp argued against it — that it would help France by forcing it to reform its bloated welfare state, create more jobs and increase economic growth.
“Those Europeans who still care about international affairs and security know, anyway, that if worse comes to worst, they’ll have to dial 911 and wait for the U.S. cavalry to save the day.”
My family had one personal loss during WWII which hurt many people for years to come. This loss is extrapolated by the thousands upon thousands of families who lost loved one’s in defense of American principles and support of our allies abroad. One death, an Uncle I never met. My only connection to this brave soul were Bobby Jones hickory shaft golf clubs and a few pictures of a skinny infantryman destined to death and a foreign burial. A young man who would never experience life beyond age 21, would never return home to Gary, Indiana, would never set foot on American soil in life or death again.
