Yes, Democrats, Liberals are now meddling with the Iraqi government and its decision to negotiate contracts with companies of their choice.
Sens. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., John Kerry, D-Mass., and Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., want the United States to dam negotiations on contracts the senators claim will, in part, further sectarian fighting.
A letter from Senate Committee on Armed Services Chairman Carl Levin, D-Mich., to President Bush’s national security adviser Stephen Hadley, is asking the administration to press Hunt Oil and other U.S. companies to cancel their oil deals with the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq.
Iraq’s oil ministry said Monday that companies chosen to participate in bidding for technical-service contracts include major energy firms, but those deals pale in comparison to the most lucrative prizes for oil exploration and new production, which are being awarded to major western oil companies, reports The Wall Street Journal.
Those technical-service contracts are separate from shorter-term, controversial consulting contracts that the ministry is negotiating with companies like Exxon Mobil Corp. and Royal Dutch Shell PLC. The oil ministry said such consulting agreements are needed in the interim because it will take about a year for the bids for the technical-service contracts to be rewarded.
Iraq’s minister of oil, Hussein Shahrastani contends that no contracts have been signed and added it was a “normal thing” to ask the largest and most experienced oil companies to help Iraq when it needs it.
“When a person needs a doctor, you ask who the best doctor in the field is,” he said.
Mr. Shahrastani said American politicians should stay out of Iraq’s oil industry and Iraq, as a sovereign nation, has the right to sign contracts with whichever company it wishes.
“Nobody has a right to interfere in our business,” he said.
The Liberals have long insisted the Iraq war was for oil and now they find themselves meddling in the affairs of a sovereign nation.
In a separate letter to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Schumer and Kerry called for Iraq to pass legislation governing the oil sector first.
“We ask that you work with the (government of Iraq) to ensure that they do not sign any agreements relating to oil or gas until they have passed a fair, equitable and transparent hydrocarbon revenue sharing agreement that benefits the Sunni Arabs, Shia Arabs, Kurds and all other Iraqi citizens,” the senators wrote.
It’s beyond the pale for this “Ilk On The Beltway” to attempt to control how a Democratically elected foreign government conducts its business.
Sounds a bit like Socialism to me. The original “Progressives” loved Lenin and now the modern Liberals love Hugo Chavez methods of controlling oil. Indeed!
Mr. Obama has gone out on a limb again only to submit another misconception or as we’ve been calling it, a “lie”, in his effort to boost himself in the polls and demonstrate his “knowledge” of all things in the universe. The “senior law lecturer” has stepped on his tongue again.
“I want you to think about this,” Barack Obama said in Las Vegas last week.
“The oil companies have already been given 68 million acres of federal land, both onshore and offshore, to drill. They’re allowed to drill it, and yet they haven’t touched it – 68 million acres that have the potential to nearly double America’s total oil production.”
The whiz kid assumes that every acre of every lease holds the same amount of oil and gas. Yet the existence of a lease does not guarantee that the geology holds recoverable resources.
Brian Kennedy of the Institute for Energy Research quips that, using the same extrapolation, the 9.4 billion acres of the currently non-producing moon should yield 654 million barrels of oil per day.
“If we extrapolate from today’s production rates on federal lands and waters,” the authors write, the oil companies could “nearly double total U.S. oil production”, writes Nick Rahall, chairman of the House Resources Committee.
Riding the wagon of lies with Mr. Rahall and Mr. Obama are Nancy Pelosi, Barbara Boxer, John Kerry and others writing Congressional energy policy. None of this ilk has a clue about oil production, real profits, energy exploration or investment.
Real people however are concerned with high costs of fuel and the politicians are busy telling tall tales and Barack Hussein Obama is now leading the parade with his “expertise” in not telling the truth. Politicians want confusion not facts, especially during the election cycle.
The U.S. Minerals Management Service notes that only one of three wells results in a discovery of oil that can be recovered economically. In deeper water, it’s one of five.
It’s The Politicians Stupid!
Yet companies are not allowed to explore where the biggest prospects for oil and gas may exist – especially on the Outer Continental Shelf. Seven of the top 20 U.S. oil fields are now located in analogous deepwater areas (greater than 1,000 feet) in the Gulf of Mexico. In 2006, Chevron discovered what is likely to be the largest American oil find since Prudhoe, drilled in 7,000 feet of water and more than 20,000 feet under the sea floor. The Wilcox formation may have an upper end of 15 billion barrels of recoverable oil and should begin producing by 2014 – perhaps ushering in a new ultradeepwater frontier.
Likewise, in April, the U.S. Geological Survey revised its estimate for the Bakken Shale, underneath the badlands of North Dakota and Montana. The new assessment – as much as 4.3 billion barrels of oil – is a 25-fold increase over what the Survey believed in 1995. Such breakthroughs confirm that very large reserves exist, if only Congress would let business get at them. [WSJ]
Democrats are shutting down debates where Republicans wish to open the door to more exploration and future production. Mr. Obama is touting energy independence without a word about oil production but he loves alternative fuels.
In the end Mr. Obama thinks he knows more than the profitable oil companies by the company he keeps and his complete lack of knowledge on the facts leaves him in the cornfields of Iowa, now under water, and rising fuel and food prices.
Blame OPEC, blame George W. Bush, blame “Big Oil”. If Mr. Obama really wishes to continue his blame game he should look at his own party and then into the mirror.
Telling the truth for a “change” would be nice too. Indeed!
Barack Hussein Obama has no foreign policy experience, zero, nada, zilch, NONE!
Hillary Clinton went on vacations and escaped sniper fire while attempting to develop her foreign policy experience and came up very empty.
Barack Obama plans to visit Europe and the Middle East this summer, an attempt to ease heated criticism over his foreign policy and national security credentials. We say, what credentials?
Does a cursory trip to several nations in a short period of time suddenly make a person an expert in foreign policy? No it doesn’t and this is one more Obama charade in his attempt to use Cliffs Notes to gain experience where he has none.
The presumptive Democratic nominee will visit Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Jordan and Israel. Aides said they can’t reveal exact dates due to security reasons but by most accounts the trip will occur in mid-July.
The new secret agent man took down his new “Presidential Seal” but continues to hope he can fool voters into believing he already is President.
Obama comments once again display his arrogance while demonstrating his ignorance about important matters and his lack of knowledge. From community organizer to President is certainly a leap the United States doesn’t need to take.
“This trip will be an important opportunity for me to assess the situation in countries that are critical to American national security and to consult with some of our closest friends and allies about the common challenges we face,” Sen. Obama said in a statement.
This amounts to “Barry Obama’s Excellent Adventure” or “Barry Obama’s Day Off.” Of course when examining his voting record Mr. Obama takes many days off.
The campaign declined for security reasons to confirm whether the trip includes a visit to Iraq but several advisors say that the Illinois senator is likely to visit U.S. troops in Iraq and possibly Afghanistan. How convenient, Mr. Obama has not been to Iraq for 903 days and counting, while never making a trip to Afghanistan but it’s election season and suddenly it’s important. H-Y-P-O-C-R-I-T-E!
“We continue to face grave threats, not only from terrorism, but also nuclear proliferation, climate change and poverty, genocide and disease,” Sen. Obama told reporters.
“Nearly all of these threats have grown over the last eight years because of the policies of George Bush, which I believe have left us less safe and less respected in the world.
To demonstrate Obama’s ignorance the surge in Iraq is working and al-Qaeda’s is dwindling in forces and their leadership continues to be killed. The Mahdi Army supported by Iran has been all but defeated.
America has not been attacked since 9/11 and hundreds of attempts have been thwarted by Bush policies during his watch. Sound bites are nice but liar Obama should get his facts straight before making statements about Bush policy by filling it with false information.
Obama assembled a meeting of 40 retired generals and admirals to talk about the challenges the military faces in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere. What in the world could Obama have been talking about? Why would any retired military personnel show up to a meeting with Obama unless they wish to bash current leaders, which is common on the cable networks?
Last month, Obama turned down an offer from John McCain to jointly visit Iraq before the election. “I just don’t want to be involved in a political stunt,” Sen. Obama said. Maybe Obama wishes to escape to foreign lands so he can makes more excuses not to debate Mr. McCain in town hall events. We suppose he can’t receive enough security to hide his lack of knowledge on all things that matter and Mr. McCain would hand the “wunderkind” his proverbial lunch.
Obama is the chairman of the U.S. Senate Sub-Committee on European Affairs. Obama’s “commitment” to Afghanistan: He believes the US “took its eye off the ball” when we went into Iraq, and promises to refocus on Afghanistan as president.
When Hillary Clinton brought this up at the Cleveland debate, Obama conceded,
“I became chairman of this committee at the beginning of this campaign. … So it is true that we haven’t had oversight hearings on Afghanistan.”
The reality is that since Obama began chairing the Senate Foreign Relations Committee’s Subcommittee on European Affairs in January 2007, not a single policy hearing has been conducted on anything, Afghanistan or otherwise.
The committee has jurisdiction over the countries of Europe, as well as NATO activities. “Jurisdiction: The subcommittee deals with all matters concerning U.S. relations with the countries on the continent of Europe … and with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, the European Union and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.”
At a closed San Francisco fundraiser the Illinois senator fielded a question on what he’s looking for in a running mate when the time comes.
“I would like somebody who knows about a bunch of stuff that I’m not as expert on.
“I think a lot of people assume that might be some sort of military thing to make me look more commander in chief like.”
“I think a lot of people assume that might be some sort of military thing to make me look more commander in chief like.
“Ironically, this is an area — foreign policy is the area where I am probably most confident that I know more and understand the world better than Sen. Clinton or Sen. McCain.
“It’s ironic because this is supposedly the place where experience is most needed to be commander in chief,” he continued. “Experience in Washington is not knowledge of the world.
“When Sen. Clinton brags, ‘I’ve met leaders from 80 countries — I know what those trips are like! I’ve been on them. You go from….the airport to the embassy. There’s a group of children who do native dance. You meet with the CIA station chief and the embassy and they give you a briefing. You go take a tour of a plant that [with] the assistance of USAID has started something. And then — you go.
“You do that in 80 countries — you don’t know those 80 countries,” Obama claimed in a transcript provided by HuffingtonPost’s Mayhill Flower.
“So when I speak about having lived in Indonesia for four years, having family that is impoverished in small villages in Africa — knowing the leaders is not important — what I know is the people. I traveled to Pakistan when I was in college — I knew what Sunni and Shia was before I joined the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.”
That’s convincing, Obama lived in Indonesia as a little boy and visited Pakistan while in college. Maybe he was looking to establish tenure at one of the fine Sharia schools or maybe become a “senior lecturer.”
Senator McCain’s “knowledge of the world” – which started all the way back to 1958 when he began his service in the Navy. As far as recent “knowledge of the world” goes, in the last few years alone, McCain has visited Iraq eight times to Obama’s one.
Barack Hussein Obama flips, flops and spins his foreign policy experience yet we can truthfully place that experience inside a thimble and have room left. We would need a room the size of the Louisiana Superdome to house Obama lies. Indeed!
