Speaker of the House – Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)
Congress slipped and then removed a controversial contraceptive provision, in which states would have been able to offer family planning services — including contraceptives — under Medicaid, the government health program for the poor, without having to obtain federal permission.
In an interview with George Stephanopoulos the Leftist Speaker defended her bill:
“The family planning services reduce cost,” Pelosi said, “One of the elements of this package is assistance to the states. The states are in terrible fiscal
budget crises now and part of what we do for children’s health, education and some of those elements are to help the states meet their financial needs. One of those – one of the initiatives you mentioned, the contraception, will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government.”
“No apologies. No,” Pelosi said. “And this is a, to stimulate the economy, is an economic recovery package and as we put it forth we have to deal with the consequences of the downturn in our economy. Food stamps, unemployment insurance, some of the initiatives you just mentioned. Believe it or not, they’re the right thing to do but they also stimulate the economy.” (Emphasis LCs)
The Speaker of the House, a Marxist of the worst ilk, attempts to tell America that contraceptives, unemployment insurance and food stamps would encourage economic growth.
$600 million dollars was also added to the “stimulus” package for conversion coupons for digital TV. Somehow dunce Pelosi believes this would stimulate the economy.
No job creation could ever be attained by the so-called “stimulus” suggested by Nancy Pelosi.
In fact, the House “stimulus” bill is pork filled and contains little in the way of potential job creation because the government can’t create real jobs. This says a lot about Pelosi and her pathetic constituency. Indeed!

LATEST UPDATE: RUSH LIMBAUGH VS. MICHAEL STEELE (New Window)
Below we discussed a blogger meeting with Michael Steele last year and than updated the announcement of his selection as RNC Chairperson. Many have heard about Mr. Steeles remarks and tepid apology concerning Rush Limbaugh. The link above provides the Limbaugh response as well as our response in kind.

The Republican National Committee has picked Michael Steele, a black man from a traditionally Democratic state, to be the new face of the party as the GOP forges a revival following a second straight electoral drubbing. Steele, a former Maryland lieutenant governor, won the chairmanship Friday after six rounds of voting in which five candidates were competing.
Steele delivered a rousing speech after winning the race, pledging to re-establish the Republican presence in the northeast and win elections in regions across the country.
“It’s time for something completely different, and we’re gonna bring it to them,” he said. “Get ready, baby. It’s time to turn it on.”
Steele said he would work to build the party to an unprecedented level and warned:
“For those of you who wish to obstruct, get ready to get knocked down.”
Outgoing Chairman Mike Duncan dropped his bid for a second term after the third round of voting. South Carolina GOP Chairman Katon Dawson had emerged as Steele’s top challenger, but Steele won with 91 votes to Dawson’s 77. Voting lasted for hours because no candidate was able to rack up the majority of votes necessary. A candidate needs 85 of 168 votes to win, which Steele eventually attained.
Ken Blackwell, Ohio’s former secretary of state, and Saul Anuzis, Michigan GOP chairman, dropped their bids before the final round of voting.
Steele ran unsuccessfully for Senate in Maryland in 2006, and later headed up GOPAC, the Republican recruiting arm. He is a frequent media commentator, on FOX News and other outlets, and has touted that experience as one of his credentials. In a recent interview with FOXNews.com, he also said his political upbringing in a liberal stronghold of Maryland had toughened him.
The results in the early rounds Friday signaled that many Republicans were eager for new leadership, after suffering double-digit losses in congressional elections for the second time in a row in November and losing the White House. Steele lagged Duncan by just six votes in the first round Friday, but the second round had them tied and Steele led Duncan 51-to-44 votes in the third round, after which Duncan dropped out.

Original Post from November 14, 2008 and Blogger Conference Call Below:
Michael Steele Makes RNC Bid Official
Former Maryland Republican Senate candidate and GOPAC Chairman Michael Steele has officially declared his candidacy for Republican National Committee Chairman.
“I want this gig,” Steele said this evening on Hannity & Colmes. “And, Alan, I’m coming at you, baby, I’m coming at you!”
Hannity said he would support Steele’s candidacy and asked Steele if he would stand for conservatives as Chairman.
“I stand in the tradition of this party,” Steele said.
“I stand for the values we have fought for. The value of life, the value of the born and the unborn, the value of opportunity, the value of growth.”
“It’s time to step up and I plan to be that leader to move us forward,” Steele said.
CONFERENCE CALL I ATTENDED WITH MICHAEL STEELE:
During a conference call this afternoon Michael Steele told bloggers he needed their help to improve the Republican Party’s technology capabilities should he be elected Chairman of the Republican National Committee.
Below are excerpts from Steele’s blogger conference call:
“…Thanks for ‘blogging’ in… I think that the fact that I’m on the phone with you guys should give you some indication of where I want to take this party next. It has always amazed me that we have under-utilized an incredibly important resource and that is the men and women out here who blog, and who share information, collect information, and spread the word around.
We have not, certainly at the national level, effectively utilized some of our strengths, effectively utilized certain strategies that will allow us to reach out with our message across this country. So, part of the parcel of what I want to do as chairman is to kick-start this in a different direction. Technology is my friend. I blog quite a bit. I’m usually on the net 2 or 3 o’clock in the morning which is crazy, but fun because I get a sense of what is going on around the world and tap into the thinking of a lot of our grassroots players out there and that includes you.
So, it’s a real honor to welcome you all to this and let me just tell you this will be just the first of a series of conversations leading up to the election of the next chairman and one that process is done, many of you will be at the table in helping to shape an internet strategy, a communication strategy, that will be second to none.”
When it comes to what you do as bloggers, now my understanding and appreciation of blogging is that this is something that Republicans really kind of started back in the Clinton era. There were a lot of guys and gals that started communicating amongst this thing so why did we let this enterprise drop? Why aren’t we actively engaging you to test ideas, to find out what’s going on in the streets, and sharing the information of what we’re doing on policy, on tactics, on all these things that get people excited and want to be a part of something…”
Liberal Senate Banking Chairman Chris Dodd demanded that regulators get to the bottom of any crime:
“American investors deserve an explanation and the responsible parties must be held accountable!” And yesterday the Connecticut Senator denounced Wall Street bonuses and said, “I am urging — in fact, not urging, demanding — that the Treasury Department figures out some way to get the money back.”
But Mr. Dodd won’t help get to the bottom of his alleged crime by releasing mortgage documents for the two properties that he and his wife refinanced with Countrywide Financial in 2003.
In June a former Countrywide loan officer charged that Mr. Dodd received preferential rates and had fees waived on those loans as part of a VIP program the company had for “friends” of the company’s then-CEO Angelo Mozilo. Mr. Dodd first issued a denial and then, days later, acknowledged that he was a “VIP” with Countrywide but said he thought it was “more of a courtesy.” In late June he pledged to make all pertinent documents public “at some point.”
YAWN! Still no documents and Dodd continues to berate private company CEOs while appearing to coverup his own nasty crime.
If Chris Dodd doesn’t have anything to hide he would release the documents. Indeed!
