Reflecting on the feckless Barack Hussein Obama concerning Iraq and watching the impotent Obama today as 21 more US soldiers fall in Afghanistan in 48 hours.

Obama, wrong then, wrong today. Indeed!

It would be easy to just write – “Barack Hussein Obama” is a total failure” but let’s get specific and off the economy and his total domestic agenda for a while.

Today’s Wall Street Journal is filled with commentary on Obama’s Oval Office speech tonight proclaiming an end to fighting in Iraq. Yes, combat troops left Iraq but nearly 50,000 more combat troops in non-combat assignments remain. If they are attacked, how long will it be before they go into combat mode?

One thing we shouldn’t expect is for Obama to give credit to George W. Bush for the successful surge in Iraq. We should expect Obama to declare victory in Iraq demonstrated by his withdrawal with violence still percolating.

But no, Obama telegraphed his intentions from his expensive rental have at Martha’s Vineyard this past weekend and the operative word was his favorite first person singular pronoun I.

“As a candidate for this office, I pledged I would end this war. As President, that is what I am doing. We have brought home more than 90,000 troops since I took office.”

“End of combat” is nice for a talking point and to satisfy your Leftist base but the truth is, combat on the ground in Iraq and Afghanistan is not at an end, it is not gone, it is not over, it is growing. What is really happening is Obama proclaims and “end to combat” for he is really snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

On August 12, Iraq’s top military leader, General Babaker Zebari, warned that Iraqi security forces will not be able to fully secure their own country until 2020.

“If I were asked about the withdrawal,” he said, “I would say to politicians: The U.S. Army must stay until the Iraq Army is fully ready in 2020.”

Under Obama policy in Iraq, al-Qaeda in Iraq (AQI) and its affiliated groups have made a comeback and continue to slaughter policemen, government officials, and civilians on a daily basis. Nearly 500 civilians were killed in July, the highest monthly death toll since 2008.

Last week insurgents launched a campaign of terrorist attacks across the country, killing hundreds of innocent civilians, police, and government officials. On Wednesday—the same day insurgents launched coordinated attacks on 13 cities and towns throughout Iraq that claimed 51 lives—an insurgent Web site proclaimed:

“The countdown has begun to return Iraq to the embrace of Islam and its Sunnis, with God’s permission.”

Instead of declaring victory Obama should stop feeding the terrorist beast with timelines. Obama has repeated that he plans to remove all troops in Iraq by the end of 2011 and in Afghanistan; he still maintains that he will begin drawing down forces by July 2011. This is not a military strategy but total and unequivocal incompetents at the highest level. Indeed!

Harry Reid worked very hard to bring a shooting park to Nevada pleasing the National Rifle Association. The NRA even donated $4,950 to his campaign and favored the Democrat campaign finance bill in exchange for being exempted from the bill’s requirements. How nice to pay off the Majority Leader for a little favor on the back side of the legislation.

Chris Cox, chairman of the NRA Political Victory Fund, the group’s political action committee, said it would not be endorsing the majority leader. He cited Mr. Reid’s push to confirm Supreme Court Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan, whom the NRA opposed.

“The vote on Elena Kagan’s confirmation to the Court, along with the previous year’s confirmation vote on Sonia Sotomayor, are critical for the future of the Second Amendment,” Mr. Cox said.

The NRA most likely had second thoughts since Erick Erickson of RedState.com urged his readers in July to pressure the NRA not to formally back Mr. Reid.

“Both people at the NRA and people in the Senate are telling me the NRA will be endorsing Harry Reid later this year and the only way to stop it is to be very vocal about it right now,” Mr. Erickson wrote.

It should still be noted the NRA is willing to pay off politicians so they can receive favored status for legislation similar to Wal-Mart looking for favors from Sen. Blanche Lincoln, one of the chief architects of the financial-regulation overhaul, who pushed for a change that would benefit a bank in her home state of Arkansas. The bank, Arvest Bank Group Inc., of Bentonville, Ark., is predominantly owned by the Walton family, of Wal-Mart Stores Inc.

Unfortunately, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that the NRA does not plan to endorse Ms. Angle either. The Conservative voices seemed to apply enough pressure on the NRA to back off of its Reid support so now they have decided it’s politically safe to stay on the sidelines. Keep in mind the NRA put money toward Reid and not Mrs. Angle.

My advice – don’t become a member of the NRA, don’t join the NRA, don’t contribute to the NRA. If they wish to support candidates in any manner that are dangerous to the US Constitution then despite the rhetoric, organizations like the NRA have leaders that are dangerous to the US Constitution and must be stopped. Indeed!
