Bush wasn’t in office long enough to have prevented 9/11 and to think so is Bush bashing not reality.
The Clinton adminstration reduced the capabilities of the military, did not pursue bin Laden when they had him in their sites, Jamie Gorelick – Assistant to AG Janet Reno of Waco fame, built “walls” between the FBI, CIA, Justice, local police and no coordination effort was in place. No sharing of data.
In reality the Bush administration may or may not have ever corrected that if there was not 9/11 but the attack changed everything and to his credit George W. Bush and his adminstration prevented it from happening again.
And with that thought they rebuilt the US Military, got them off food stamps and poverty level housing, increased the quality of equipment and fully armed them.
War is unfortunate and very ugly but you don’t have your military armed with spitballs instead top grade equipment.
A real Commander-in-Chief would never, ever use Army Rangers to hand out medical supplies and food (Blackhawk Down) when that is never their mission.
A real Commander-in-Chief would never ignore calls to eliminate bin Laden and let F-14/16s sit on aircraft carriers until they ran out of fuel because he would be interrupted from watching a golf match. (Lt. Col. Buzz Patterson – “Dereliction of Duty“)
Patriot Act and FISA protect us, they do not diminish our freedoms. Public option healthcare has been carefully designed to do that.

9/11 was not prevented because Bush did not heed every warning that it was imminent, instead choosing stupidly to focus on China. It’s history. I know wingers love to re-write history, but I’m tired of the lionization of W, he messed up hard. And he DIDN’T prevent the NEXT attack, the ANTHRAX attack. He kept us as safe as any wife with two black eyes is kept safe by her husband. In the immortal words of RUmmy, “you go to war with the army you have, not the one you want.” So it’s justified to send under-armed soldiers into battle because you HAVE TO send them? right? War is unavoidable, you’ll scream. No, it is avoidable. And avoiding it means stopping it when you have a chance. Navy Seals from US Special Operations Forces conducted a raid in southern Somalia on Monday that killed Saleh Ali Saleh Nabhan, one of 4 co-conspirators wanted in the 2002 bombing of an Israel owned hotel in Mombasa, Kenya, two senior U.S. military officials told Fox News.
Ten days ago Barack Hussein Obama signed the Execute Order for Nabhan, who since 2006 was on the FBI’s list of most wanted terrorists. He was also wanted for the attacks on the U.S. Embassy in Kenya in 1998.
They called it operation Celestial Balance: at least two AH-6 Little Bird helicopters deployed from one of two U.S. Navy vessels near Somalia’s coast strafed a vehicle Nabhan was using to go back and forth between meetings.
Intelligence operatives had been monitoring Sabhan prior to the attack. The helicopters passed once, firing on the vehicle, and then circled back around to retrieve the body so they could make a positive identification, according to an official.
The attack in Mombasa took place on Nov. 28, 2002 – involving a suicide bomber that blew up the lobby of the Israeli owned Paradise hotel. On the same day the attackers unsuccessfully attempted to shoot down an Israeli owned Boeing 757 civilian jetliner run by Arkia. They fired surface to air missiles and missed.
Nabhan’s Somali group, Al- Shabaab, has links to Al Qaeda.
