The mainstream media won’t elaborate, the story is getting little play in Chicago, but Barack Obama has another dirty little secret beyond his erstwhile stock deal.
It is about Obama’s real estate relationship with political inside man and fundraiser Antoin “Tony” Rezko, recently indicted in one of the scandals that plague Democratic Gov. Rod Blagojevich.
Investigative reporters Ray Gibson and David Jackson discuss the Obama real estate mishap in the Chicago Tribune, while the MSM stays quiet.
On Dec. 28, 2006, land records show, Rezko’s wife, Rita, sold the garden lot she owned next to Obama’s home, transferring it to a company that plans to develop housing there.
Rezko’s wife and Obama bought the adjoining South Side lots in 2005 and then engaged in a series of personal financial transactions to re-divide and improve their parcels. Both lots had once been part of the same estate, but the owner listed them for sale separately.
Rezko’s wife appears to have netted roughly $54,500 from her dealings with the parcel, but that figure does not include expenses and property taxes. She bought the parcel for $625,000 in June 2005, the same day Obama bought his home for $1.65 million.
In January 2006, Rita Rezko transferred a 1,500-square-foot strip of her land to Obama for $104,500. Her recent sale of the rest was for $575,000.
Obama moved fast to distance himself from Rezko once this friend and contributor was indicted. Obama expressed regret for his 2005 land purchase from now-indicted political fundraiser Antoin “Tony” Rezko in a deal that enlarged the senator’s yard.
Politicians always express “regret” when they get caught in association with less than scrupulous business partners and “friends.” In his stock deal, Obama said he had “misspoken.” Hindsight and backpedaling are always the convenient out for political ilk.
