Proof of cooperation between Iran and Syria in the proliferation and development of weapons of mass destruction was brought to light in Jane’s Defence Weekly, which reported that dozens of Iranian engineers and 15 Syrian officers were killed in a July 23 accident in Syria.
The joint Syrian-Iranian team was attempting to mount a chemical warhead on a Scud missile when the explosion occurred, spreading lethal chemical agents, including sarin nerve gas.
According to GlobalSecurity.org, Syria is not a signatory of either the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), - an international agreement banning the production, stockpiling or use of chemical weapons – or the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT).
Syria began developing chemical weapons in 1973, just before the Yom Kipper War. GlobalSecurity.org cites the country as having one of the most advanced chemical weapons programs in the Middle East.
This author has maintained Iraq’s WMD did exist and traveled to either Syria, Iran or both. Nizar Nayuf (Nayyouf-Nayyuf), a Syrian journalist who defected from Syria to Western Europe said in a letter dated, January 5, 2004 to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf,” that he knows the three sites where Iraq’s Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) are kept. The storage places are:

Nayouf writes that the transfer of Iraqi WMD to Syria was organized by the commanders of Saddam Hussein’s Special Republican Guard, including General Shalish, with the help of Assif Shoakat , Bashar Assad’s cousin. Shoakat is the CEO of Bhaha, an import/export company owned by the Assad family.

In February 2003, a month before America’s invasion in Iraq, very few are aware about the efforts to bring the Weapons of Mass Destruction from Iraq to Syria, and the personal involvement of Bashar Assad and his family in the operation.
Maybe Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) could have a joint return visit with President Assad and get a first hand tour of the WMD tunnels.
