From John Fund at Political Diary:

Senator John McCain is back on the campaign trail, sort of.
The Arizona Republican made automated calls this week to puncture holes in President Obama’s health care plan, which he had vigorously attacked last year during his campaign for president. The robocalls went to 12 million households and featured Mr. McCain calling on five of his Senate Democratic colleagues to help stop Obama administration attempts to remove 2.6 million Americans from the Medicare Advantage program, which offers seniors a choice of coverage plans managed by private companies.
“I introduced the first Republican amendment to the massive health care bill, which would send the bill back to the Senate Finance Committee and stop the Democrats from cutting $500 billion in vital Medicare coverage for our seniors,” the robocall script read. The calls apparently have been a success, with thousands of phone calls pouring into Capitol Hill offices yesterday.
Senator McCain isn’t just relying on the telephone to spread his message. This coming Sunday, he will travel with GOP Senator John Barrasso, one of the Senate’s two physician members, to New Orleans for a town-hall meeting on health care in the home state of Louisiana Democratic Senator Mary Landrieu. Ms. Landrieu, up for reelection in 2010, is a key swing vote on the health care bill — so much so that Louisiana was the recipient of $300 million in additional Medicaid largesse from Senate Democratic leaders last week as part of their effort to woo her to back their health care bill.

While we certainly wish Mr. McCain good luck on his endeavors to stop Obamacare some of those amendments went to the scrap heap today while mayy await the way of the DoDo Bird.
Casting its first votes on revamping the nation’s health care system, the Senate rejected a Republican bid Thursday to stave off Medicare cuts and approved safeguards for coverage of mammograms and other preventive tests for women.
More than $100 billion in cuts to Medicare Advantage in the Democrats’ bill, including hospice care, home health care and skilled nursing, are all areas of focus for GOP amendments related to Medicare, a senior Senate GOP leadership aide told Fox News.
Thursday’s Medicare vote went to the heart of seniors’ concerns that cuts from the program used to finance coverage for the uninsured will undermine the quality of their care.
Furious with opposition from AARP, McCain railed on the Senate floor and delivered a message to seniors:
“Take your AARP card, cut it in half and send it back. They’ve betrayed you,” he said.
Robbing Peter to pay Paul is the Senate version to lie to American’s that Obamacare is good for them. We know better, indeed!
