The fight is on and Super Tuesday, February 5th, will separate the front running candidates in the GOP. Debating the issues is difficult because both John McCain and Mitt Romney have either flipped on their positions or have records that don’t necessarily provide them with Conservative credentials. Of course, either gentleman would be the preferable choice when faced with the Democrats Liberal offerings.
John McCain:
- McCain has a pro-life voting record.
- McCain is part of the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002, aka, McCain-Feingold Campaign Finance Reform. This law has not taken money out of politics but has created restrictions on political speech. Strict constructionist judges find this law unconstitutional so how would a President McCain choose judicial nominees?
- Member of the “Gang of 14″ Mr. McCain might nominate consensus candidates for the Supreme Court, in the mode of David Souter or Anthony Kennedy. Would Mr. McCain attempt to appease Democrats with Sandra Day O’Connor candidates?
- Mr. McCain’s broad interpretation of the Geneva Conventions and views on interrogation suggests international law and legal opinion may influence a President McCain.
- Where does John McCain stand on immigration, amnesty for illegal immigrants and border security and in what order does a President McCain wish to either enforce the law or modify it to appease Liberals and keep promises?
Mitt Romney:
- Mid-term conversion on the abortion issue, candidate Romney switched from pro-choice to pro-life, which is quite a leap and sudden change of heart.
- Governor Romney Mr. Romney had a habit of passing over conservative lawyers for his appointments of judges or clerk magistrates in Liberal Massachusetts. From the 36 people he elevated within the Massachusetts judiciary, more than half of them were either Democrats or independents with the bulk of appointments going to Democratic candidates.
- Mr. Romney now says a President Romney would be committed to strict constructionists, which looks like a politically convenient attitude swap.
- Mr. Romney, no matter how he wishes to parse it, got a lower form of HillaryCare passed in ultra-blue state Massachusetts and it’s proving an unwise criterion for healthcare.
- Mr. Romney has declared he would secure our borders and export illegal immigrants.
Both candidates need to stop playing five-card stud with Conservatives and lay their cards and credentials on the table, in writing, and decide if they are worthy of Conservative support.
In the end, a Clinton or Obama presidency is frightening to the extreme for freedom lovers everywhere. Growing government with higher taxes, untold earmarks and social programs is not what a true Conservative would offer and Messrs. McCain and Romney need to inform the Republican base where they stand. Both candidates need to assure to GOP what precisely they would do when appointing judges to the Supreme Court, how they will fix social security, curb spending and keep taxes low or lower.
The time is now, indeed!

Unfortunately, what happened in the last few days prior to the Florida election appears to be the same thing the Republican party did when we elected Bob Dole to be the nominee–it was his turn. The GOP has a long history of the establishment bending over backward to give the nomination to the guy who’s been trying long and hard and it’s just “his turn”. When Crist and Martinez announced last-minute endorsements, Guliani talking about the same… it’s more evidence that, as a party, the GOP is ready to set up for a loss in the general election by putting up the wrong nominee. I just hope Super Tuesday somehow changes things for Romney… so close, it will be interesting with Guliani out of the race–I can only hope that Huckabee will drop out, too… but, probably not, because he’ll stay just to make things easier for McCain, too.

I wonder Why neither one of the Main GOP candidates have Not made any comments on the Latest, what I consider political band aid for a broken leg, quick fix for the Economy.
If either were to be considered a serious Conservative, he might want to really look at what is really needed to stimulate the Economy and gain credibility with us Conservatives:
1) Make the Bush tax cute PERMANENT.. proven winners which will reawaken public optimism. And allocate PORK and Earmarks unspent Moneys in road and bridges rebuilding ( American Jobs , American Companies, and American income)
2) Eliminate the Social Security Income tax which is aburden to many eleder retirees, an Al Gore Gift to the less fortunates in true Liberal tax position…
3) Make a public promise of NO AMNESTY and Border Security which Mc Cain is dancing around and even hired Juan Hernandez a pro NAU advocate.. what does this say???
4) Allow tax rebates to ILLEGALS.. is there where they can be FOUND ? and if so why not pick them up and use the rebate for Relocation to their home lands????
Lastly Mr MAC.. How can you go on Tim Russert and say that Hilalry Clinton would make a FINE CIC??? Almost gagged on that one!!!!
