Obama’s Latin Friends – Confía en el Marxismo

by @ 9:43 am. Filed under Foreign Affairs, Law & Justice, War on Terror

Ousted Honduras president Manuel Zelaya is on a camping trip just outside his native country where he was attempting to take over the government similar to his pal Hugo Chávez of the former democracy of Venezuela.

Enter friend of the Latin Marxists, Barack Hussein Obama, who has enjoyed good foreign relations with tyrants and dictators from South America. Let’s look at the Obama timeline for relations with Latin thugs:

April Summit of the Americas in Trinidad – Obama publicly shook hands with Hugo Chávez in a photo-op and accepted an anti-American book from the tyrant. Mr. Chávez says he will overthrow the current Honduran government and Obama wants the Chávez clone Zelaya reinstated.

A new Government Accountability Office report finds “that corruption at high levels of President Hugo Chavez’s government, and state aid to Colombia’s drug-trafficking guerrillas, have made Venezuela a major launching pad for cocaine bound for the United States and Europe.”

Election in Ecuador – Obama called Ecuador’s Rafael Correa in early June to “congratulate” him on his recent re-election and  “express his desire to deepen our bilateral relationship and to maintain an ongoing dialogue that can ensure a productive relationship based on mutual respect.”

On June 22, Wall Street Journal’s Mary Anastasia O’ Grady reported that Colombian military intelligence had evidence the Correa government is a supporter of the Colombian rebel group FARC. A furious Mr. Correa jumped in front of television cameras to issue a threat to sue The Wall Street Journal. “We are fed up with their lies,” he warned.

The Associated Press released a video days later of a rebel reading a letter from the FARC’s deceased leader about “compromising” documents that talk of the FARC’s financial support for Mr. Correa’s 2006 presidential campaign and “agreements” with Correa envoys. Reporting on the news, the Spanish daily El Pais wrote that “various emails from the computers of [FARC honcho] Raúl Reyes tell about the delivery of $100,000 to the Correa campaign team. What is new is that a high-ranking leader of the guerrillas verbally acknowledges the contribution.”

Mr. Zelaya is endorsed by FARC who is busy attempting to upend the real ally and Democratic leader in Columbia Alvaro Uribe. Obama has told Uribe that the US is committed to free trade with his country but American labor unions have been holding up a free trade agreement with pressure on Congress. Of course Obama will back his union brethren for all that money they provide his election war chest.

FARC is endorsed by Hugo Chávez, FARC endorses Manuel Zelaya, Rafael Correa and other Latin Marxists while fighting against a capitalist democracy in Columbia.

The latest twist from Obama’s administration is if Honduras does not comply with reinstating Mr. Zelaya to office the US mayfreeze assets and revoke the visas of interim government officials.

Ms. O’Grady points out that Obama advisor and confident to Latin American policy is lawyer and White House Counsel Gregory Craig.

Mr. Craig was the lawyer for Fidel Castro—er, Juan Miguel Gonzalez, the father of Elian Gonzalez—during Bill Clinton’s 2000 repatriation to Cuba of the seven-year-old. During the presidential campaign when Mr. Craig was advising Mr. Obama, the far-left Council on Hemispheric Affairs endorsed Mr. Craig as “the right man to revive deeply flawed U.S.-Latin America relations.”

Ms. O’Grady wonders aloud if Latin American policy isn’t being driven left by Mr. Craig’s advice.

How and why was Mr. Zelaya removed from office?

  1. The Supreme Court, by a 15-0 vote, found that Mr. Zelaya had acted illegally by proceeding with an unconstitutional “referendum,” and it ordered the Armed Forces to arrest him. The military executed the arrest order of the Supreme Court because it was the appropriate agency to do so under Honduran law.
  2. Eight of the 15 votes on the Supreme Court were cast by members of Mr. Zelaya’s own Liberal Party. Strange that the pro-Zelaya propagandists who talk about the rule of law forget to mention the unanimous Supreme Court decision with a majority from Mr. Zelaya’s own party. Thus, Mr. Zelaya’s arrest was at the instigation of Honduran’s constitutional and civilian authorities—not the military.
  3. The Honduran Congress voted overwhelmingly in support of removing Mr. Zelaya. The vote included a majority of members of Mr. Zelaya’s Liberal Party.
  4. The constitution expressly states in Article 239 that any president who seeks to amend the constitution and extend his term is automatically disqualified and is no longer president. There is no express provision for an impeachment process in the Honduran constitution. But the Supreme Court’s unanimous decision affirmed that Mr. Zelaya was attempting to extend his term with his illegal referendum. Thus, at the time of his arrest he was no longer—as a matter of law, as far as the Supreme Court was concerned—president of Honduras.
  5. The military was ordered by an entirely civilian Supreme Court to arrest Mr. Zelaya. His removal was ordered by an entirely civilian and elected Congress. To suggest that Mr. Zelaya was ousted by means of a military coup is demonstrably false.

Obama doesn’t back rule of law in a Democracy like Honduras but supports his Leftist Latin friends. They are all on the wrong side of freedom, liberty and history.

Confía en el Marxismo Obama- In Marxism Obama Trusts. Indeed!

Sorry, I was tiring to find a reputable news site. Not one that distorts the facts.

  2. Liberally Conservative Says:

But Robert, you have not been misled, you’rr simply in the tank for Obama and got confused.

It’s because Obama is not just a Marxist but a Marxist/Fascist hybrid.

He brings the qualities of Lenin and Mussolini in one package because he’s so “gifted.”

You’re unable to see the political forest for all the political dead wood in the way.
