President Bush used Congress’s Easter break to let Democrat lawmakers know their obstructionist ways aren’t appreciated and appointed three officials to positions favored by the administration.
The president used recess appointments to install Sam Fox, a major Republican donor from Missouri, to be ambassador to Belgium; Andrew G. Biggs of New York to be deputy commissioner of Social Security, and Susan E. Dudley of Virginia to be administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs at the office of Management and Budget.
The recess appointments allow the three to remain in their posts until the end of 2008, virtually the end of Mr. Bush’s second term. President Bush will not easily surrender to lame-duck status despite the Democrats’ control of Congress and their power frenzy.
John Kerry, who treated Mr. Fox like a second-class citizen during his Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing for Ambassador to Belgium, feels “abuse of power” is an issue.
“It’s sad but not surprising that this White House would abuse the power of the presidency to reward a donor over the objections of the Senate,” he said in a statement.
It was ok with Kerry to demean Mr. Fox publicly and request a public apology for donating money to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth during the 2004 Presidential election season.
Mr. Kerry commented after the hearings that Mr. Fox “had every opportunity to disavow the politics of personal destruction and to embrace the truth” and had not done so.
Kerry uses a hearing for revenge purposes and then discusses the “politics of personal destruction” to make his point; how convenient. Swift Boated again, the pathetic Kerry should just go away.
Afterall, “Kerry Lied While Good Men Died!” There’s truth for you Mr. Kerry; except you can’t handle the truth!
