Republican’s Survivor Needs to Wake-Up and Smell the “Commies”

It’s hard to be an enthusiastic Republican these days. We need someone or something to coalesce our party and our “strategery”.

Two major camps of the talking heads remind us hourly that all is lost for us and are busy drumming up support for the Dems any way they can.

There are the doom and gloomers at ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC and every major daily newspaper I can think of who want us (that’s U.S.) to fail everywhere, simultaneously.

Then there are the doom and gloomers on our side.

Of course, I mean the conservative talk show talking heads like rush and Sean, Laura and the brilliant but loony columnist and intellectual bomb thrower, Ann Coulter. These folks are telling us the Republican Party could be destroyed soon and that’s the price we’ll pay for electing a bunch of nincompoop’s since 1994 and squandering our majority.

From the right and left, all of these folks are depressing the Republican base, the Republican fringes, the religious right and the Reagan Democrats at the same time. Neat strategy, it’s working. We’re all depressed. And no one is showing up to vote. No one is giving money and none of the PAC’s is prospering.

But maybe the coming dust-up over someplace called “Kosovo” with the Russkies will get us fired up. Or maybe not. Where the hell is Kosovo and why should we care about their freedom?

But there’s something lurking that we thought we had flushed down the toilet of history in 1989 that just might come oozing up and get our attention very soon. I’ve gotten a whiff of it and it ain’t pretty. But this stuff can be disguised as “Change” if it is mislabeled and pushed on the streets to the weak minded.

What “It” is, is the “C” word.

Not the same “C” word that got Jane Fonda in trouble on the Today show.

I mean the “C’ word that if uttered aloud, instantly labels any Republican speaker as some kind of 1960’s John Bircher-Barry Goldwater extremist.

The “C’ word probably has not been uttered on a national newscast in the U.S. in a number of years. Yet it is the philosophy of the left, laid bare. Literally liberal fascism when taken to the extreme in Russia, China, Viet Nam and elsewhere.

It is making a comeback, here and abroad. “It” is in fashion, baby.

“It” is the theme on the wall of Barrack Obama’s Houston campaign offices, where Che Guevara’s heroic images and the Cuban flags fly proudly on the wall, equally with the Stars and Stripes.

Good Lord, I am not making this up.

I refer to that completely discredited political movement, started at the end of WWI, in Russia, that was to unite the workers of the world into one monolithic government. One that would take care of the worker from birth to death and redistribute all the wealth, from each according to their ability to each according to their need.

“It” took massive slavery, murder, extortion and starvation to new heights never before reached by man. Stalin and Mao murdered more Russians and Chinese than all the European civilians and all the victims of WWI and WWII combined. Hundreds of millions dead.

In theory, “It” was promising. Lots of U.S. academics still think “It’s” the cat’s pajamas. They are all just using terms and phrases that sound somehow more hip than “seize the property of the Capitalist pigs” for example.

But that’s what they intend and what they would love to see.

The “It” I refer to is coming out of the shadows, dressed up in nice sound bites that include the terms ‘entitlement” “national healthcare” “investment’ and ‘no more tax breaks for the rich”.

And when “It” becomes a shrine on the wall of our leading presidential candidate, the smell of the sewer is getting pungent and perhaps flammable if allowed to seep deeper into the Dem party.

“It” is also simpatico with Global Warming policy too. Let’s shackle the capitalist pigs of the west to shift resources to the poor and exploited and tax the economies that succeed to prop up those that fail. Just a huge metaphor for the 90-year experiment that already failed in Russia, Eastern Europe, Cuba and everywhere it goes.

But it promised utopia and delivered hell on earth.

So couldn’t we just keep some of its good ideas and try them out again?

That’s what Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are suggesting. In so many words, they are the heirs of Lenin, Stalin and Mao. They now mouth some of the same slogans, just prettied up a bit and perfumed to hide the stench.

They are against the United States at every turn. We are winning an unpopular war that they would gladly lose.  Al Qaeda is on the run and severely damaged-but they would free the Al Qaeda detainees at Gitmo in a heartbeat.

The economy is still strongly afloat after taking some sub-prime torpedoes below the water line, but they would give up the ship and tax it right down to Davey Jones’ locker if given the helm.

They are against freedom of speech. They would kill talk radio with the “1984” version of PC police to end non-lib commentary on the radio and TV. Hitler, the ultimate liberal fascist, who invented National Socialism to compete with “It” proved that if you control the media completely,  (more than 95 percent of all news reporters now identify themselves as liberals or democrats) you can invent the truth to suit your needs.

And while most people who have half a brain have decent jobs, Hill and Barry think it’s only the “rich’ who are succeeding. Worse, they say it is the rich who are destroying opportunity for the poor. They want to tax the rich into submission, tax them into poverty if possible. Hammer the oil companies, the lenders, the drug companies, and the corporations. Hammer and destroy the workplaces of 80 percent of the people who work in this country and vote. Makes sense, to them.

Of course the rich they mean to destroy (or at least kneecap) are the people who create all of the wealth, create industry, jobs, take risks and find the cure for cancer. These people are clearly the enemies of the state.

This is the essence of “It” and where “It’ got its game on.

Class envy, class warfare, class destruction and class slavery. All of these things are on the table. The Democrats will stop at nothing to get back into power and are perfectly willing to employ “It’s” tactics to get there, no matter the cost.

Unless someone calls them out.

But who will lead us? Will it be our nominee? Or is there a Yoda out there who can be our spiritual advisor? Someone that can take John McCain by the lapels and shake him into electability?

Is it Mr. Newt? Carl Rove? Elvis?

Everyone is waiting and waiting. For a sign from heaven or outer space or Washington D.C.

Won’t someone lead us, awaken our checkbooks, stimulate our minds and give us some comforting noogies like our dad did when we needed them?

Much like NASA’s radio telescopes listening for intelligent life on Betelgeuse, Republican voters are waiting for somebody somewhere to say something worth listening to from the Republican candidate, what’s his name, or our party leaders, whoever they are.

Have you sent money to the party lately? Or to a candidate? I haven’t either because nobody’s home, no one is listening. And Fred Thompson’s phone has been disconnected.

Actually, it was never connected.

I waited to see if Fred was serious before I sent him a dime. He never was and I never did. His website never published a phone number and no one ever answered a single email, dating back to summer 2007. I emailed over and over. No one home there, ever. No response, even though I offered my time to the campaign.

Then there was Mitt. He did not interest me until the end. I’m no bigot but the Mormon thing does not play well outside of Utah. I don’t think most mainstream Christians, African Americans or Right To Lifers could accept Mitt’s various positions, the positions of his church or his flip-floppiness.

So, it was no-go, no dough for Mitt, at least from me. He did show us how so much money could buy so few votes.

Then there was Rudy 9-1-1. The Great Wait Hope. We’re still waiting. How could a balding 60ish guy with a lisp, a decent resume, some Casanova tendencies and several wives and girlfriends make it onto my short list? He couldn’t. No money wasted by me on this guy either.

Then there’s the Huck. He never mailed, never called. His campaign is over but his ego lives on.

He lost my fleeting respect when he took on Democrat talking points to run against Bush instead of running for president, then doubled back and half apologized to the President; “Someone wrote the words I signed off on but I didn’t mean them.”  So, I wrote the words a few months ago: “Shuck the Huck” None of my money or time lost there.

Finally, there’s what’s his name, the short old guy with the scar, the thin gray hair, the scar, the ill fitting suits, the thin voice who looks far older than 71 years old.  Maverick John McCain.

He is a legitimate hero, a brave man.  He is also short tempered, vengeful and full of himself. He is a patriot in the absolute sense. He is a highly flawed, partial conservative that inspires virtually no one. He and his wife have some skeletons in the closet, in their marriage and with the still- living Charles Keating.

But I think Mac will do as president.

It’s as if he is the eventual winner of a “Survivor” TV show, something I’ve never watched and probably wouldn’t unless I was paid to.

In the campaign so far, the Survivor is the guy who has not been voted off the island and can eat raw snakes, hold there hand over the tiki torch for 30 seconds and handle an interview with Chris Mathews without actually punching him out.

McCain has survived because the competition killed each other off while he kept treading water. Not a brilliant and bold strategy but one that worked. I do give him credit for backing the Surge early and often. It was heroic, just not sellable now –or then. Bush did succeed in Iraq in the past nine months, taking Iraq off the table for this election, perhaps.

But meanwhile, the campaign goes on. Sort of.

Mac has sent me numerous mailers that I have not opened.

I already know what he wants: “Give me your money and shut the hell up.” He wants conservatives on board, paying full fare, but in the back of the bus.

But I think he might just win without Rush and Sean, Ann and Laura on the trip. He might just win if he can identify “It” and explain that the two Dems are simply the latest in a long line of failed demi-despots who can and will take our country down.

Could Mac just read a few of Ronald Reagan’s speeches at his tepid campaign rallies and plagiarize them liberally? The Gipper won’t mind.

Meanwhile, who’s running the RNC and what the heck is their “strategery?” They have none, apparently. But they are on the bus, probably a little drunk and down to pocket change. They don’t know where the bus is going but they are glad to be going somewhere.

Meanwhile, there’s the McCain campaign sitzkreig.

Nothing is happening. The media coverage has vanished, no ads are running and there is no message. None.

His is temporarily a phony campaign, suspended for the most part, while Mac and his posse try to round up a few dollars to go on. So far this month, I think they’ve raised $39.50, the AARP bus fare from Des Moines to Peoria, I believe. Not enough riders to make the trip worthwhile–yet.

So Republicans, what to do? Pray a lot. Eat right. Hope that Mac and the RNC wake up and smell “It” before it’s too late. Maybe they will craft a message of optimism, set some Measurable Goals We Can Believe In TM.

But probably our best hope rests with Hillary, the slightly less ultra socialist candidate now most promoted by the loony but brilliant Ann Coulter. If Hillary steals the nomination, she alienates the Obamination (which sounds exactly like abomination to me) who all sit out the election and the Dems hand the election to Mac.

If he can just wake up and smell the “Commies” that is.  Call out Hillary and Barack as the socialists they are. Ask them to explain themselves and skewer them with facts, with history, with reality. It’s hard to do in 30-second debate statements; harder still in 10 second nightly news sound bites.

I don’t know if he could pull it off. It would take some splainin’ to our ADD media and functionally illiterate MTV watchers to demonstrate how robbing from the rich and surrendering our armed forces might ultimately cause some interruptions of employment, interruptions of gasoline, lights, and some cable outages due to terrorism.

But failing this difficult campaign strategy, maybe Mac can just wait and watch the Dems implode after the convention.

Maybe he needs no real message and can simply tread water to win, the ultimate Survivor.
