Senate Democrats – No Line-Item Veto

by @ 7:39 am. Filed under Economics, Govt. Regulation, Politics, Pork Watch, Taxes

Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) and Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) attempted to water down earmark reform but later had to face the consequences of their actions by allowing a vote on Senator Jim DeMint’s (R-SC) amendment for stricter measures.

This week Republicans failed to push through the line-item veto amendment, which would allow President Bush and his successors to single out and send back to Congress earmarks and other wasteful projects in spending bills. One Republican, Senator Richard Shelby (AL) voted against the amendment.

These hypocrites applauded President Bush when he mentioned controlling earmarks, but that was for the cameras. Earmark reform was a nice campaign sound bite; you can’t take spend out of tax and spend Liberal, it’s not “politically” correct.
