Big headlines are spilling out, “China sweats in warmest temperatures on record“, while Al Gore is nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize and his movie “An Inconvenient Truth” receives nominations for an Academy Award. It’s not as easy to find the headlines, Cold Front Closes Schools, Businesses or news of a minus 35 degree wind chill in Chicago.

Heidi Cullen of The Weather Channel is calling on the American Meteorological Society (AMS) to revoke the “seal of approval” extended to broadcast forecasters in the United States in cases where they have expressed skepticism about man’s role in pushing up planetary temperatures.

In the 1970′s “Global Cooling” became the scientific consensus and now the fear mongering has reversed position while the non-scientist Al Gore basks in fame and fortune taking the Liberal position of “blame America first” and it’s all George Bush’s fault declaration. After all, Gore once claimed he “invented” the Internet and now he has a contingent of Hollywood leftists to support and promote his claims.

In Leftist tradition it’s important to forget honest debate, subvert claims opposing global warming theories and condemn anyone bold enough to question the so-called “facts.” Exposing the public to fictional demonstrations in movies and indoctrinating our school children with one-sided views, while ignoring top scientists and history, seems fair to Liberals. What they fear most is intellectual debate, they promote the “fear factor” and it’s not a TV show on NBC.

In 1976 writer Lowell Pointe claimed, “It is a cold fact: the Global Cooling presents humankind with the most important social, political, and adaptive challenge we have had to deal with for ten thousand years. Your stake in the decisions we make concerning it is of ultimate importance; the survival of ourselves, our children, our species.”

We wonder what Mr. Pointe’s argument on “Global Warming” is today in respect to his bold claims of the impending “Global Cooling Factor.” In academia free speech and challenging the status quo should be encouraged, yet colleges and university professors teach one-sided views which don’t necessarily foster intellectual debate and in fact, discourage or punish it.

One scientist with an opposing view of global warming received a three-page letter, deemed libelous by his lawyer, saying he had no right to say what he was saying, especially in public lectures. The term for that is censorship and is treading the dangerous area of restricting free speech, something held dear to free people. Liberals use personal attacks and bend the truth to restrict opposing views and to make their claims as fact.

The inconvenient truth and fear for Al Gore and the global warming fanatics is debate. Recently Mr. Gore refused a well-planned interview in Denmark with a Danish newspaper and Bjorn Lomborg, author of “The Skeptical Environmentalist,” to offer counterpoints to Gore’s global warming argument. Gore wanted only questions about his book and documentary. 

Apparently the Gore crowd is uncomfortable in the ”hot seat” and finds it inconvenient to accept opposing views. The global warming segment of society prefers to use fear and only their position to get a message across that may prove expensive and false similar to the global cooling scare of the past.
